Summerschool "Reduced Basis Methods - Fundamentals and Applications"

Parameter dependent differential equations arise in many applications, e.g., in civil engineering, in fluid mechanics, or in biology. In order to be able to rapidly simulate, control, and optimize such parameter dependent systems, some sort of model reduction has to be applied. In order to obtain reliable surrogate models, one has to be able to control the error and adapt the order of approximation.

This summerschool provides an introduction to the theory and to applications of reduced basis methods, which allow to give some rigorous answers to the above questions and to construct low dimensional approximate models with high fidelity.

The school is addressed towards students and graduates with a reasonable mathematical background. Besides a series of lectures, that provide a theoretical introduction into the field, we also provide programming tutorials, in order to allow to gather first experiences with the astonishing performance of RBMs.

    It takes 25 min by Underground from Marienplatz (town center of Munich) to the Garching campus
    (No. U6 to the terminal “Garching-Forschungszentrum” (= Garching research center)).

    • Take the S-Bahn (suburban railway) S1 to Neufahrn, then switch to the bus No. 690
    • take the S8 as far as Ismaning, change then to bus No. 230.
