The Calibration method for free-discontinuity problems

Abstract

The goal of calculus of variations is the minimisation of functionals. In general, the identification of minimisers can be very difficult. We will explain what a calibration is, and how (in some situations) it can be used to solve this problem. In particular, we will consider some recent developments related to free-discontinuity problems.
