A new approach to damage and material fatigue
Abstract
The aim of this compact course is to present a new approach in the study of oscillating elastoplastic bodies subject to fatigue, with the intent to model the relationship between plastic deformation, energy dissipation and material fatigue. We interpret fatigue as the material failure resulting from cycling loading, which is manifested by heat release and material softening. Our main modelling assumption is that fatigue accumulation rate is proportional to the plastic dissipation rate.
We deal first with the thermodynamical model and then present some recent related mathematical results.
