The Discontinuous Petrov-Galerkin (DPG) Method with Optimal Test Functions

Prof. Dr. L. Demkowicz, University of Texas at Austin

The compact course has been postponed. We will inform you of the new dates as soon as possible

Course content

The 14h short course will cover fundamentals of the DPG method. This will be a blackboard math class occasionally complemented with a few slides showing sample numerical results. The course will be based on the last chapter of lecture notes on Mathematical Theory of Finite Elements which I hope to have completed at the time. For a current, working copy of the notes, see https://users.oden.utexas.edu/~leszek/classes/EM394H/book.pdf

Program: (lecture times will be confirmed soon).

All sessions take place in the Zentrum Mathematik, TUM, Garching Forschungszentrum

Monday, 4th May
Lectures 1-2: An overview of theory of variational (weak) formulations and relevant facts from Functional Analysis
Lectures 3-4: Three hats of the Ideal and Practical Petrov-Galerkin Methods with Optimal Test Functions

Tuesday, 5th May
Lectures 5-8: Breaking the forms and test spaces

Wednesday, 6th May
Lectures 9-10: Extensions to Maxwell problems
Lectures 11-12: Construction of Fortin operators
