Fractional PDEs: control, analysis, and discretization

Prof. Dr. Harbir Antil (George Mason University, Virginia, USA)

Abstract

Motivated by several applications, for instance image denoising and phase field models, recently fractional differential operators have received tremendous attention. These operators provide an attractive mathematical tool to model effects with limited regularity properties. This course will give an introduction to fractional partial differential equations, including discretization and control of these equations (elliptic and parabolic). Our focus will be on linear, semilinear and quasilinear differential equations. In addition, we will learn about fractional quasi-variational inequalities. In terms of applications, we shall focus on fractional phase field models and fractional models for image denoising.

Please bring your own laptop to the course for simulation exercises - thank you!
